Chiropractic care can help maximize your sleep so your body can rejuvenate
Importance of Sleep
Adequate levels of sleep are critical to your health and overall wellness. Sleeping is the time where our body repairs and heals itself. Our body is constantly regenerating. Our red blood cells regenerate every 120 days. Our skin cells regenerate every 27 days. Even our heart and brain cells are constantly regenerating. When we don’t get the proper amount of sleep, it is impossible to be healthy because we simply cannot repair our own tissues.
What is Insomnia?
Insomnia is a sleep disorder that is characterized by difficulty falling and/or staying asleep. When you understand the importance of sleep outlined above, you realize that this is a very serious issue that should not be taken lightly. An estimated 30%-50% of the general population is affected by insomnia, and 10% have chronic insomnia.
How Can Chiropractic Help My Insomnia?
Chiropractic focuses on the body’s overall health and function. When our nervous system is functioning at 100%, then all our organs and systems in the body are functioning properly. When there are interferences in the nervous system, such as misalignments near the brain stem causing irritation to the nerves, the organs are not able to function properly. This can lead to numerous health issues, including insomnia.
Becky, a 34-year-old female, has been struggling with sleep and headaches ever since she could remember. She was drinking several cups of coffee throughout the day just to stay awake and alert. She had to force herself out of bed every morning because she was simply too exhausted. For the past 3 years, she was prescribed 3 different sleep medications, along with several other over the counter supplements. She said they would work for a little bit at first, but then would stop working because her body would adjust to it. She didn’t like how she felt being on all those medications, and reported lots of brain fog and memory problems, as well as severe mood swings.
After an in-depth chiropractic examination, we found her upper neck had severe misalignment’s, putting a ton of stress on her brain stem and upper spinal cord. After Becky’s first adjustment, she reported later that week that she was able to sleep the whole night for the first time in 5 years. After a series of adjustments, her neck curve was restored.
Not only is poor sleep an after thought, but she said she is thinking clearly and has a lot more energy. Becky is now feeling much better, and more importantly, her body is now functioning at 100% and she was able to get her life back.
