The Year of the Ram celebrates success created by harmony and togetherness.
Patients keep asking me about the significance of the Year of the Ram. Anyone unfamiliar with the Chinese New Year may not even know what the Year of the Ram means. So, below is a very brief description of the Chinese New Year and this year’s qualities.
A brief explanation of Chinese New Year.
Although there is a specific date for the Chinese New Year, it’s actually celebrated for 15 days. The first day of the Chinese New Year celebration is the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, or Chinese New Year’s Eve. The Lantern Festival, or Chinese New Year, is on the 15th day of the first month. This year the date is February 19, 2015. Each of the 15 days requires observing traditions to boost good luck, wealth, happiness, good fortune, longevity and other positive qualities as well as to diminish negative qualities, such as bad luck. They eat particular foods each night, celebrate different members of the family, alive and dead, honor deities, and so much more. This small summation is nowhere near the big picture of the significance of the Chinese New Year, but hopefully it at least depicts the importance of this time for maintaining traditions that celebrate life and lives past.
What’s the Significance of the Year of the Ram?
Each year is also identified with an animal, real or mythological, and brings with it the qualities associated with that animal. Last year was the year of the Horse, which is now shifting, on Feb. 19, 2015, to the year of the Ram. This year signifies that our willingness to work together creates great strength and success. It is said we can use the energy of this year to accomplish joint goals. Also, recognizing and acknowledging the needs and contributions of others generates mutual respect and boosts our reputations. Attributes that will breed most success this year also include compassion, gentleness, kindness and sensitivity. Reaching out to others will facilitate a more rich life.
The Ram is the 8th of 12 zodiac animals. So, the year of the Ram will come around again in 12 years. That doesn’t mean we have to wait that long to create through togetherness. It just means the energy of the year is more in favor of that quality. We can begin our joint efforts this year, and this year’s motive force will propel our joint ventures into a future of success.
If one of your goals this year is good health, then the Year of the Ram will support you. Make an appointment for acupuncture today, so we can work together to help you reach your goal with kindness and compassion.
